Funding
(Update:27
May 2010)
The
activities of the Desert Lion Project are not for profit.
We are committed to sound scientific research and the long-term
conservation of desert-adapted lions in Namibia. For funding
the Project depends entirely on sponsorships, small donations
and conservation grants. Most of our support comes in the
form of items needed (i.e. fuel, tires, GPS collars, etc.)
instead of large cash donations. We make a concerted effort
to keep the operating budget small, to limit overhead expenses,
and to commit all funding directly to research and monitoring.
The Desert Lion Conservation Project is a field-based operation
that spend it's resources and time on studying and conserving
lions.

Funding
needs
The
operational budget and a detailed list of funding needs
are presented under Budgets.
Support
to the Desert
Lion Conservation Project can be provided by donating specific
items and equipment that are needed. Interested sponsors
can purchase these items directly from the suppliers, and
the items can then be shipped to Namibia by the supplier,
or by the sponsors themselves. For example, if you were
interested in sponsoring a GPS radio collar for a lion,
you can contact Televilt (a radio-tracking supplier in Sweden
- contact details provided below) and purchase the collar.
Televilt knows what our needs are and they will manufacture
the collar and ship it to us.
A
list of specific items that can easily be purchased and
sent to the Desert Lion Project in Namibia is presented
below.
