Lions move into danger zone

Thursday 14 January 2021

The two Orphan lionesses moved beyond the narrow gorge and continued upriver to the border of the Skeleton Coast National Park where the captured a gemsbok. The Lion Rapid-response Team continued to communicate with the Purros community and ensured that the cattle remain close to the settlement. In collaboration and under the guidance of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry & Tourism attempts will be made to prevent the lions from moving closer to Purros and failing that to immobilise and translocate the lions back to the Hoanib Floodplain. Shipwreck Lodge continued to provide support.
