Hoaruseb monitoring

The two Orphan lionesses have remained in the lower Hoaruseb river west of the Clay Castles where they have been monitored closely. Large numbers of gemsbok continue to utilise the green grass along the ephemeral river and the lionesses are unlikely to leave the area until such time as local rain showers or flooding rivers cause the prey to move on.

Brown hyaenas

A brown hyaena was observed carrying a seal carcass from the mouth of the Hoaruseb river into the dunes in a northeasterly direction – presumably to a den with cubs. A data logger at Scott Bridge in the Huab river collapsed when a brown hyaena chewed the anchor ropes. The anchor ropes were replaced with steel cables.
