Hoaruseb flood

Wednesday 24 March 2021

Rain clouds continued to build during the afternoons following the flooding of the Hoaruseb river on 19/20 March 2021. This resulted in rising floodwaters and the Hoaruseb river turned into a fast flowing river.

The extensive flooding of the Hoaruseb river changed the suitability of the riverbed and the surrounding area for the wildlife. Most of the gemsbok and other prey animals quickly vacated the area in search of green vegetation resulting from the rainfall further inland. The two Orphan lionesses could not move along the riverbed anymore, but continued to search for prey along the gullies on the Northern bank.
